Hello Friends,
Today I’m sharing a little tour of my kids’ bathroom. We remodeled it a few years ago (before I started blogging), I repainted it about a year ago, and recently added some coastal inspired decor. I definitely have summer on my brain.
I haven’t shared it until now because it is a difficult space for me to photograph. It’s a bit small, the lighting is challenging, and photographing the high contrast white and blue is something I haven’t yet mastered. My photos are far from perfect, but they are the best I could do. I hope you enjoy seeing this space.
My favorite part about this bathroom is the board and batten wainscoting. I wish I could claim credit for it, but a very talented carpenter did all the millwork in this space.
The wall color is Benjamin Moore Newburyport Blue. It was so hard for me to get it to photograph accurately, but in person it’s a navy blue. I really like it with all the white going on. The little rug with the tassels and the white basket are both from HomeGoods.
I found this pretty blue pot the other day at a local Seattle store called City People’s Mercantile. I do love my blue.
The sea life artwork is from Etsy. I bought a whole set of them several years ago. They are blue sea life printed on vintage book pages. This one is a cuttlefish and the text underneath says, “Wanna cuttle?” It is framed in an simple white IKEA frame.
I like coastal decor, especially with navy and white. I think the key to pulling off a coastal look is to not go overboard (see what I did there?). With beach, nautical and coastal styles, it’s easy to end up with a space looking like Captain Jack’s sea shanty. Just a few touches are enough. Natural elements are especially nice.
My son found the shell when we were beachcombing in Florida. It’s kind of petrified and rustic, and only half a shell actually, which makes it so interesting to me. I’m using it as a little soap dish. The tile and counter top are carrara marble. The bridge faucet, made by Porcher, adds a sculptural element to the bathroom and has a vintage feel.
Thanks so much for stopping by today and touring my bathroom. Have a happy weekend.

Beautiful room! Love the wainscoting. I am not normally a “blue” person, but I love the paint color! Stunning.
Susan says
Thank you, Peggy. Most of the rooms in my home have very light, neutral paint colors. I thought it would be nice to add a fun pop of color to contrast with the wainscoting in the bathroom. I love blue, but if I get tired of it, I can always repaint. Susan

I love anything nautical or coastal. Ironic since I live in the desert! Super pretty and one that can grow with the kids (and guests). Visiting from Remodelaholic.
Susan says
Hi Victoria! Thanks so much for visiting my blog from Remodelaholic and for leaving your nice comment. When we remodeled, my kids were small and I remember being worried about the sink being too high. I needn’t have worried, my son is now taller than I am, and the sink is just right. They do grow fast! Susan

Love the color combination. I have been thinking of navy and white in my den because I need some color to go with the couch. This post has convinced me it is the way to go.
Susan says
Thank you so much. Navy and white is a classic color combo. Good luck with your den! Susan

That’s a nice room! Our living room is dark blue (after I took a fancy to the colour a couple of years ago). The paintwork is cream, and the floors are oak stained paile grey. We have no curtains (drapes) but roller blinds are a white background with pink red blue and grey dots.

You definitely did not go “overboard” (ha!) on the coastal theme! Just enough, very classy. Love this space!

I love it. I have done something similar I was wondering what white your used and the finish. Is it satin or semi gloss?
Thanks
Susan says
Thank you, Linda. The white on our woodwork and cabinets is a custom color, but it is very close to Benjamin Moore Cloud White, and it is a satin finish.

Gorgeous! Where did you get the shade?
Kitty says
Me too, where did you get the shade ? Love it !
Susan says
Hi Kitty – I made the shade from an IKEA dishtowel! The towel was the same width as the window, and I used upholstery glue (Magna Tac 809) to adhere it to the existing wood valance. That’s it. Susan

Thanks so much ! Can’t wait to try. We are learning from you ~
