I definitely have a love/hate relationship with Craigslist. My experiences have been mostly positive, and I think it is a valuable resource, but the challenges do exist. This week, I found a great antique dresser and agreed on a price with the seller. We set up a date and time for me to pick it up. The evening before, she sent me a text saying that she had been getting a lot of interest in the dresser and that she was going to up her price. Okay, that just really rubbed me the wrong way. I responded that if she felt she could not honor our agreed upon price, I would have to pass on the deal. Apparently, she didn’t have a problem backing out because she simply responded, “Ok good luck.”
Back to the drawing board for me. A quick search turned up another good prospect. I quickly emailed the seller and arranged to pick up the dresser the next morning. The photos were pretty poor quality, but it looked to have good bones and the price was right. The description said that the dresser was solid but had a “little scratch” on the top. Well folks, I don’t know about you, but I consider this more than a little scratch!
The veneer was quite damaged on the top, but the rest of the dresser was solid. It’s hard to tell from the photo, but there is a really funky shellac job on the dresser as well. Here is what she looks like.
I consider the veneer damage to be cosmetic and I can definitely repair it. I plan to paint it with General Finishes lamp black milk paint. I may slightly distress the edges (although I am not a big fan of the overly distressed shabified look). I have already picked out some great brass pulls from D. Lawless Hardware that I think will really gussy her up and complement the black.
Stay tuned for her after shots!
Thanks for stopping by my blog.

Totally agree with you on the love/hate Craigslist thing! Kills me. I’ve had really good luck selling my own restyled furniture via CL, but finding new inventory can be a real pain sometimes.

Good website! I truly love how it is simple on my eyes and the data are well written. I’m
wondering how I could be notified when a new
post has been made. I have subscribed to your feed which must
do the trick! Have a nice day!
