The entire time I was working on these chairs, the color made me smile. Now, I realize that orange is not everyone’s cup of tea, but I love it. Always have. And this modern floral fabric, well it’s just the icing on the cake. These chairs are just plain fun.
The paint is General Finishes milk paint and the color is called Persimmon. If you have read any of my other posts, you know I love GF milk paint and this color is no exception. The fabric is made by P. Kaufman and is called Tempo Mambo (even the name is fun). I purchased a yard off Etsy, which was more than enough for both chairs, but there are other online sources for this fabric.
I used my new Porter Cable upholstery stapler for this project. Wow, what a difference a pneumatic stapler makes. I was able to recover both of the chairs in about 30 minutes and it was SO much easier than my old manual stapler.
I found these chairs a couple of months ago and they have been sitting in my workshop patiently waiting their turn. It took me awhile to decide what direction I wanted to go, but I ultimately decided on Persimmon. I’ll say it again – I love this color!
And for those of you who love a “before” photo, here it is.
Have a wonderful day!

Love how these turned out! I too am a die-hard fan of GF milk paints since discovering and using them this past Fall, and have been eyeing this color by them for awhile. I have yet to find the perfect candidate to use Persimmon for, but when it appears… 😀 This color seems to really add a nice spark to your kitchen, and that fabric is perfect. Great job!

Hey Susan! I stumbled across these on the General Finishes design page and I love the burnt orange look you created! Such a great job. Would you mind telling me if you used a dark wax or glaze?
Thanks! And Happy Holidays!

Hi Bethany! For the midcentury chairs, I just used GF persimmon milk paint and their High Performance top coat. No glaze or wax. It’s a really pretty color on its own, but if you want to tone it down, a glaze or wax would look great. Thanks!
