The weekend is winding down, and I must say, it definitely feels like summer here in Seattle. It was great to be able to work outside in my garden in the warm sun, and I was able to make a lot of progress on my furniture projects. On that note, I am sharing my latest makeover.
I picked up another free dresser from someone in my neighborhood who posted a “curb alert.” The dresser didn’t look like much. It was boxy, brown, and blah. But, it was solid wood, structurally in good shape, and I knew I could do something with it. It sat on my front porch for a couple of weeks until I finally had room in my garage for it. Here’s the CL photo.
The dresser had a little platform attached to the bottom (which isn’t visible in the photo) and I thought it was just screaming for some new feet. I was able to simply unscrew the platform to remove it. This left a flat surface to attach the new feet. Later, I will share a tutorial on exactly how I did it. For now, here are the glamour shots.
See what I mean about needing new feet? Much better.
I sanded the entire dresser and then painted it with 3 coats of Old Fashioned Milk Paint in Federal Blue. This color is really pretty and has a lot of variation and dimension. I love that – it feels very rustic and coastal to me. There are also some areas where the wood tones show through. I sanded between coats of paint and then sealed it with General Finishes High Performance topcoat in flat. It feels so smooth. I just love the finish.
I tried out several different knob and pull combinations, but finally settled on these white flower knobs I picked up from Hobby Lobby. I love the white knobs against the blue.
I styled the dresser with some of my favorite coastal finds. I’ve had this shell forever. I found it on the beach in Nantucket at least 10 years ago. Sometimes the simplest of objects have the most meaning.
Well friends, another curb alert makeover is complete. This beauty is ready for a new home.

My last few furniture projects were done in this milk paint color. I am crazy about it. I had leftover mixed up, so I painted the insides of some drawers with it.

Federal Blue is a beautiful color. I am definitely going to use it again. Now, to find the right piece!
