Well hello friends!
It’s been awhile since my last post, and I have slowed down a bit on my furniture painting. The weather is cooler and the days are shorter which makes it hard to get out to my shop to paint. On the flip side, the seasonal change has definitely increased my “nesting” urges. Today I am sharing one of my recent non-painting projects.
If you have been following me, you know that I love to thrift. Several months ago, I spotted this great seagrass wing back chair at the Goodwill. It was in near perfect condition and only $50. The original cushion wasn’t in bad shape, but I switched it out for a white one to better fit my decor.
This is the spot in my home where I photograph my smaller furniture pieces. It’s a nice little patch of wall with great lighting. This chair is the piece of furniture that lives permanently in this spot. I put some felt sliders on the bottom of the chair, so when I need to photograph a piece of furniture, I can easily move it out of the way.
My kitchen is just adjacent to this spot, and this chair makes a great place to sit and relax.
In my house, we love to snuggle up with throw blankets. I have them all over. I have been wanting a throw with big chunky tassels, and decided to make one. This is a fairly simple project that requires basic sewing skills, which is all I have. 🙂
I picked up the softest fabric I could find at JoAnn’s. I used a solid white for one side and a fleece fabric with a winter scene for the other. I used 0ne and a half yards of each. I wanted the tassels to be chunky and soft, so I used a yarn called baby blanket yarn. I am not a knitter, so yarn is completely new territory for me. It worked out perfectly, though. They are big, soft and plush.
There are about a million and one tutorials on tassel making, so I won’t go into it here. I learned that you can buy expensive tassel makers or simply use a cardboard template, which is what I did. Each tassel took about 3 minutes to make (yes, I timed myself). I made a total of 20 tassels, and sewed them onto two of the ends.
It’s not perfect, but that’s okay. I love it and it adds a bit of coziness to my chair.
Thanks for stopping by.

Thank you Maxine! The room is definitely very light and bright and the wood tones keep it from feeling too sterile.

Thanks JoAnne. The deer on the fabric are really fun for winter.

I love all of your posts! I just clicked over to your IG and notice you’re from Seattle. I knew you looked like a nice person. I’m from that area (Renton), but now in crazy Southern California. xx Kris

Thanks so much Kris! I lived in San Diego for many years and for a short time in Newport Beach. I loved Southern California and really miss it (especially during the PNW dark and rainy winters!). By the way, I am following you, too. You do amazing work!
