Welcome!
I’m here today with another installment of my home tour. Quite some time ago, I decided to begin sharing rooms in my home. I want to show you how I have used my restyled furniture pieces in my own home.
Today, I am showing you photos of my “den.” It is a small room adjacent to my kitchen at the back of my home. I call it a den because it is really rather small, but it could also be called a family room, I suppose. We use this room to hang out and watch TV. I also love to sit here in the morning with my coffee and look out at the garden.
This room faces southwest, so it is the brightest room in my home. The style of the decor is definitely coastal, which I love. I’m keeping the coastal decor year round in this room, since I never tire of it. I like the fresh and airy vibe this room has. It can get mighty gloomy here in Seattle in the winter months, so this room helps me fight off the winter blues. If you look closely, you can see a few of the seasonal decorations I have added.
I picked this sweet deer up many years ago from Pottery Barn and I have always loved to bring him out for the winter. This year, I added a simple bell around his neck.
The basket under the coffee table hides all the electronics. They are easily accessible, but I don’t have to see them. Everyone’s happy.
I refinished this empire style dresser a few months ago and decided to keep in for my den. The TV is on top and we store more electronic mumbo jumbo, video games, etc in the drawers. You can read about how I transformed the dresser here. It’s painted in “Calypso Blue” by Benjamin Moore. Love, love, love this color. I changed out the knobs recently to these fun stag knobs I found at Hobby Lobby.
I have always loved to furnish my home with vintage and thrifted finds. I think they add so much character to a room. I also frequently change up my decor, so knowing I didn’t spend a fortune on these pieces makes it easier to switch them out when I need a change. I recently found this pretty silver plate pitcher that I am using for a vase. The blue and white boat was also a thrift store find. I filled it with succulents and shells that we collected over the years on trips to see my mom in Florida.
This is the view from my den into the kitchen. The seagrass wing back chair was another thrifted find. You can read about it here. I love that chair so much. Sometimes I wonder why someone would donate a piece like that. One man’s trash. . . right?
The rug is made from jute and it’s very soft. I like the natural texture it adds, and am so pleased that it is comfortable, too. In the past, I had a sisal rug that was actually painful to walk on in bare feet. My kids would run across it like fire walkers. They begged for me to get rid of it and eventually I did.
Overall, the jute is great, but one thing you should know if you decide on a jute rug. Large amounts of sandy dust fall out of this rug. When you lift it up, it looks a bit like the beach underneath. I vacuum frequently and sweep underneath so I’m hoping this “beachy” effect will eventually go away. Please tell me it will.
The white sectional is slipcovered. I’ve had white slipcovered furniture for years and I love it. I live with kids and pets, and still like white slipcovered furniture. Here’s the thing about white slipcovers. They don’t get any dirtier than any other color, you can just see it. These covers are washable, though, and I like that.
This is my tuxedo cat Louis. His magical talent is that he is able to shed only his black fur on the white furniture, and only his white fur on my dark clothes. He’s amazing!
Thanks for stopping by.

It’s a lovely room, Susan…very picturesque but also very real and livable! And it looks like you might be a Sinatra fan? I loved watching some shows recently celebrating his 100th birthday…Ole Blue Eyes!

Hi Robin! Thanks so much for stopping by. Yes, we are Sinatra fans. Hard to believe he would have been 100! I grew up with a dad who loved jazz and all the old standards. My husband is also a music lover.
