Hello Friends!
I’m back today with with another installment of my home tour. As I mentioned a while back, from time to time I will be sharing photos of my home, in addition to my furniture makeovers. My home is furnished with rescued furniture, vintage finds, and thrifted treasures. Today, I am showing you some photos of my home office.
Our office is just off the entrance to our home. I recently gave the little corner between the front door and the office an update with pine planking and some hooks. My home is of a modest size, and I am trying to make every inch functional. I’ll be sharing more details on this mini “mudroom” makeover in an upcoming post.
The desk is my office is made from some Pottery Barn file cabinets that were part of a desk set I purchased many years ago. The original desk was a bit too deep and not quite wide enough for my space. So, I used the existing file cabinets (and customized them with label bin pulls) and made a new top. The top is a butcher block counter from IKEA. I had it cut to size, stained it a weathered gray and sealed it with a satin polyurethane. It’s great because I have enough room for a comfy chair to fit underneath and a nice wide work surface.
I see file cabinets at the Goodwill all the time. You could easily make a desk like this for very little money by painting a couple of file cabinets and adding a butcher block top.
The white slipcovered chair and and a half is a piece I purchased from Crate and Barrel at least 15 years ago. They still make a similar one. It doesn’t take up much space – my office is only about 10 x 10 feet – and it converts to a twin sleeper. The office can function as a guest room when needed.
The striped rug is a Dash and Albert indoor/outdoor rug that I found at the Goodwill. I was so happy to find it and it was in near perfect condition. Score! We have already had a “pet accident” on it and it cleaned up like a charm.
The little drawer on the top of my desk was a flea market find from many years ago. It’s a vintage catalog drawer that I painted and then added gray and white herringbone paper to the bottom. We use it as our in box and it’s normally full of our mail.
I also love to collect vintage books. I am a nurse, so I was thrilled to find a nursing text book from 1929. It’s quite interesting to read about the nursing practices from almost 90 years ago. Things like mustard plaster and poultices. . .
Of course, Louie had to get in on the photo shoot.
That’s my little office tour. Thanks for stopping by!
