Hi friends!
Today I’ve got a quick post to share the before and after of a midcentury dresser I just finished. I picked this up at the Goodwill, along with the matching 6 drawer lowboy (that will be coming up for its makeover very soon).
I don’t know the maker, but it’s a classic midcentury style and very well made. The outside was worn and the finish dull, but you can see the pretty wood grain on the drawers. I decided to give this one an update with bright white paint for the body and a natural finish on the drawers.
After cleaning, prepping and priming, I sprayed the body with 3 coats of Benjamin Moore Advance paint in Super White in a satin finish. I stripped and sanded the drawers, and then sealed them with General Finishes High Performance top coat in satin. The color of the walnut was so pretty that I left it natural and opted not to use any stain.
Just look at what was under that old dull and muddy finish. Gorgeous wood grain.
Thanks so much for stopping by.

I love this dresser. Great inspiration.

Susan..love this update. I remember when mid-century modern was referred to as “Danish modern.” I wasn’t fond of it then, but have come to appreciate it, especially when it looks like yours.

Gorgeous! Especially the natural wood! Can you tell me why you needed to strip the drawers rather than just sand them?
Susan @ Saw Nail and Paint says
Thank you Kelly! The drawers are wood veneer which is very thin. For this type of surface, I am always concerned about over sanding and going through the veneer. So, I strip first and then just do a light sanding to finish. It would be okay to just sand, but you need to be careful to not over do it!

I wish you could stop having a personal life and spend more time painting. Your work is amazing and I want to see more!!!
