Hi Friends!
I am spending today at my desk, and staying out of my shop. You see, yesterday I threw my back out. Ugh. Nothing major, just a tweaked lower back from poor body mechanics while moving a chair. Something this former nurse should know better than to do, but it is what it is. So today, I’m trying to take it easy and do some more sedentary tasks, like getting caught up on my blogging. I’ve got a great makeover to share with you, too.
Earlier this spring when my unfinished inventory was exploding, I spotted a gorgeous dresser and night stand set at the Goodwill. Oh man, did I want them. I think I had cartoon hearts floating all around me. They were vintage Bassett Asian inspired and the hardware was a-ma-zing. Sadly, I just did not have the room. I took photos of them while at the Goodwill (those photos were inadvertently deleted when I got my new iPhone, so I can’t show you. Insert angry face emoticon.), and I emailed them to my furniture refinishing friend Christina at Phoenix Restoration to see if she was interested. I didn’t have space for them, but someone needed them, and I knew Christina could make them beautiful. I’m guessing Christina was also buried in unfinished pieces, and decided to pass.
When I went back the next day – just to check on them, wink wink – the dresser had been sold (no surprise), but the night stands were still there. It was at that point that I convinced myself that I could certainly find space for some little ole’ night stands. Fast forward 20 minutes and I was driving off with those beauties packed into the back of my van, which I have now renamed my “mobile storage unit.” There may not have been any room in my garage, but they would fit just fine in my mobile storage unit, eh hem van. So what if my kids can’t ride anywhere with me for awhile. That’s not such a bad thing, right?
I love pink, especially a bold one like this, and I have been waiting for the right piece to use it. I have been so inspired by the gorgeous pinks used by Christina at Phoenix Restoration and Robin at RPK Interiors. These ladies have created some pink showstoppers for sure.
As I have said before, inspiration can come for anywhere, and in this case, my favorite pink purse was the driving force behind this custom pink shade. It’s also a pretty close match to Benjamin Moore Pink Corsage.
I used mostly General Finishes Holiday Red milk paint. I added a very small amount of GF Royal Purple, which is a very intense shade of purple on its own. I’m not sure what I will do with the rest of it. Maybe finish my Prince shrine? Just kidding. Sort of.
I then slowly added Snow White until I had a pink that was a near perfect match to my purse. When I told the guys at paint store that I was going to mix Holiday Red and Royal Purple, they looked at me like I was nuts. Hey, nothing ventured, nothing gained. It’s only paint after all.
After sanding and priming, I used my (affiliate link) HomeRight Finish Max Sprayer to spray 3 coats. I then sprayed two coats of (affiliate link) General Finishes High Performance Topcoat in Satin.
I shined up the hardware with Brasso. I really wish I had that “before” photo. Curse you iPhone, she says with shaking fists. The hardware was so tarnished and dirty, and disappeared against the brown wood. Now it just sings against the pink.
Here they are side by side.
Thanks for stopping by!
Take care, friends.

I can relate very much with this post Denise. I am also trying to get caught up with unfinished pieces before buying new, but it’s so difficult to stop searching! It’s so much fun to find that diamond in the rough! These two pieces came out wonderful. Such a s leak finish. And your pictures are beautiful. Thanks so much for sharing.

Ugh auto correct spelling should be sleek but I can’t go back and change it.

Thanks so much Jackie. As hard as it has been, I have been able to resist the temptation to make any furniture purchases this summer. I must say, I am enjoying working so much more now that I have some elbow room. So happy you stopped by my blog. Susan

I love the color and have a purse the same color I am thinking of selling because I have a neck injury and cannot carry a heavy purse. I think I will keep it now just to look at. This color and the end tables look so good. I love them. If you still have the old camera with the before photos, just charge it and upload the photos to your computer and then you can put them in your posts. Blessings

Thanks so much Nancy! I tried to downsize my purse, but eventually had to go back to the larger one 🙂 I just can’t seem to get away from the need to carry so much junk! I gave my old phone to my son to use, after I had activated my new one. He deleted the phones from my old phone, and for some reason they also deleted from my new phone. Not sure why, but I spent way too much time trying to get them back without success.

These are gorgeous, Susan! Yes, I’m so sorry I forgot I message you back, but I was set on getting my garage to near-empty before restocking. I also have another gorgeous Asian piece im itching to get to. That piece was incredible though, so don’t hesitate to share future finds that you personally want to pass on. You know I love this makeover and especially the beautiful color you mixed up. Love the handbag too!
Thanks so much for the shoutout! I’m equally inspired by all of the beautiful pieces and spaces you create. 😘
