If there’s anything I love more than throw pillows it’s throw blankets. Especially as the weather is cooling, they are a must in my home for snuggling up on the couch. To keep my collection of blankets tidy and on display, I made a simple and rustic blanket ladder for my den. This was a very easy and inexpensive project. There are a multitude of great tutorials on the interwebs about how to make these, so I won’t go into great detail here. I’m not sure a tutorial is even necessary. Seriously, this is one of the easiest DIY projects to tackle.
Disclosure: I have received products for this post, but all opinions are entirely my own. This post contains sponsored links from Old Fashioned Milk Paint Company.
I wanted a tall and slender ladder, so I used two 2 x 2’s cut to 7 feet in length for the sides. For the rungs, I purchased one 1 x 2 and cut it into five 18 inch pieces. The total cost for the wood for this project was approximately 5 bucks. I stained all of the wood using a dark walnut stain. I let it dry for about an hour and then assembled the ladder. I spaced the rungs 12 inches apart and then used wood glue and brad nails to secure them to the sides. Wood screws would also work for this. For added detail, I decided to create a white dipped look. Once assembled, I taped off the sides just under the second rung from the top, and primed the lower ladder with some white paint I had on hand. I then applied two coats of Old Fashioned Milk Paint in “Snow White.” Easy peasy. I really like the contrast of the dark stain with the white paint.
Enjoy your week!

Susan, would you mind telling me where you purchased your sofa///I love it also It is just the style I had in mind for myself.
Susan says
Thank you! The sofa is the Ektorp sectional from Ikea. I have been very happy with it so far. Love having slipcovers that can be washed, or even replaced for a very reasonable price.

Hi Sean – The wall color is Benjamin Moore “Balboa Mist” and the trim color is custom, but very similar to Benjamin Moore “Cloud White.” Thanks!
