Hey guys!
I’ve been busy over here getting my house ready for the warmer and longer days that are now upon us. We finally have some amazing weather here in Seattle, and I am taking full advantage by getting my porch ready for summer. I am so excited to share with you some updates I have made.
It’s been awhile since I’ve shown you our front porch, and we have made a few changes. Like the rest of our home, I’ve used a combination of thrifted, vintage, new, and repurposed finds on the porch.
We hung a new light fixture over the front door. It’s the Pottery Barn Bolton indoor/outdoor lantern. We converted the recessed light that was there to a pendant fixture by using this recessed light conversion kit. When I say “we,” I really mean I had the electrician do it for me since electricity makes me nervous. I know my DIY limits. The electrician said it was really simple to do, though.
I am so in love with this lantern. It’s huge, but I wanted a large light fixture to work with the scale of the house and porch. No wimpy lights for this porch. Ha!
I also hung a couple of inexpensive IKEA curtains to soften this end of the porch and add a bit of privacy. They are the Merte curtains with grommets. I used a tension rod, and it took all of 5 minutes to hang them.

I found a cute little basket at the thrift store, painted it blue, added some faux hydrangeas and hung it on the front door.
If you follow me on Instagram, I shared how I recently found an exact match to a seagrass wingback chair I picked up a couple of years ago at the Goodwill. Last week I spotted another one there. My patience paid off, and I now have a matched set for the porch. I added simple white cushions from IKEA that fit perfectly. The bistro table between the chairs is a nice size for eating breakfast, placing a drink, or even working on a laptop.
The lantern is from Pier One, and adds a nice glow in the evening. Pillows and a throw make this space cozy. I picked up a huge fern from Lowe’s and just popped it into my favorite planter.
An old galvanized container holds faux lilacs.
I picked up some Spanish lavender at Trader Joe’s. I can never have enough lavender.
This is the view from the other direction. Our porch is long and narrow, so I created a seating area at each end.
I gave the sweet vintage chest a makeover a couple of months ago. You can see the before and after here. It adds a bit of storage to the porch, and makes a nice spot to drop my purse or groceries when I am opening the front door.
I moved my chunky jute rug outside. Last fall I hung the repurposed window with the metal birds.
Costco had some gorgeous hydrangeas. They aren’t normally in bloom just yet, but they seem to be doing fine on the porch.
More lavender! I picked this one up at Safeway. The little basket under the bench holds a few magazines.
Thanks so much for stopping by and touring my front porch.
Susan

Hi Susan….do you ever have problems with spiders on your porch? We don’t use our front porch because of the spiders!! If you do, what do you do to control them? Your porch and house are lovely’!!!!
Susan says
Thanks, Monica! We do have spiders at times on the porch. I just sweep them away. One year, a spider made a big web between the columns, and my kids adopted him as their pet and named him Charlie (after Charlotte’s Web). My daughter Sadie actually loves spiders. Me, not so much!

I luv what you’ve done to your porch…..it looks soooo inviting. And what a lucky find, getting the matching wicker chair a year later. Well done with everything.

Thanks so much, Erika!

Your porch looks awesome. You have a gift for making a space look collected and full without looking cluttered.
I can look at pictures of your home over and over!
Susan says
Thanks, Sharon! That means so much to me. I love to collect, and can easily go overboard unless I constantly check myself. Taking photos of my home definitely helps me reign things in and edit my spaces. I also rotate a lot of my pieces, rather than have them all out at once. Have a great weekend! Susan

Just lovely! I don’t have a front porch, but so wish I had. I’m trying to work out a plan to “fake” one along the front of my house. Your door colour inspires me. I have a variated red brick house and was thinking of painting it blue, but then if I put a wreath with blue in it on the door it might not pop very well. Using an aqua might work better. Then I can use blue accents. Thanks for the idea!

Can you tell me where the table in between the 2 Seagrass chairs is from? I would try it on my front porch! Thanks!
Susan says
Hi! The black bistro table is from Ballard Designs. I’ve had it for years and they still sell this table. It’s a classic! Thanks.

If I had a front porch I would want it to look just like this. Love the seating areas and the mix of blues!

Love, love, love your front porch and wish I had one!! Would you please let me know where I could find a galvanized planter and stand like the one by your front door with the fern. Also did you stencil the No. 4 on the galvanize faux lilac container, if so how did you do it. Thanks Martha
Susan says
Hi Martha – I picked up the planter at a local store, but it is also on Amazon (here’s the link). I did stencil the No. 4 on the galvanized container. I used a number stencil I had on hand and a bit of dark gray paint. I used gray rather than black so it would have a bit of an aged look. Thanks so much for stopping by! Susan

Could you please tell me where you got the tall planter by the front door, with the fern in it? I love it! Thank you!

Thanks, Janet! Here is an affiliate link for the planter.
