Raise your hand if you love doing laundry. I actually don’t mind it, but the state of my laundry room definitely was not inspiring me to get the clothes washed. I gave my laundry room a makeover a few years ago, but it was time for a little update. I wasn’t going for a major remodel, just a “fluff and fold” to spruce up the space. My vision for the laundry room refresh was light, bright, fresh and clean.
Before
Here is how it looked before I started. I know, not cute. I cleared out the space, got a Double Gulp of Diet Coke, tested my paint sample and got to work.
After
Here is the after all fluffed, folded, fresh and clean.
I scrubbed the room top to bottom, and then painted the walls with 2 coats of Benjamin Moore “White Down.” It’s a creamy white just a shade or two darker than the trim and cabinets. The natural light from the south facing window in here is perfect with this color. It is light and bright without feeling cold. I painted the cabinets a few years ago in Benjamin Moore “Cloud White.” I’m not planning on replacing the tile in this space, so I picked a paint color that would work with the beige tones in the tile.
I added a simple shelf over the washer and dryer. It’s just a 1 x 10 common board from The Home Depot and cut to size. I primed and painted it with the same color as the cabinets. The brackets are simple metal brackets also from The Home Depot. It makes a really nice spot for detergents and supplies.
I am absolutely in love with this laundry detergent and laundry fragrance from The Good Home Co. The scent is called Beach Days, and it is heavenly. I don’t use it on everything, just sheets and towels, and the things I want to really smell special. Using wonderful smelling products makes laundry day a bit more tolerable for sure. And, the lovely packaging is nice, too.
The hook rail on the opposite wall makes a nice spot for hanging laundry. The room is narrow, so the row of hooks makes good use of the space.
The cotton ticking stripe runner is from Annie Selke. It’s so pretty and warms up the cold tile. The seagrass basket adds some texture.
Amazing what a little elbow grease and some paint can do, huh?
Have a great weekend, friends!
Susan

It looks beautiful and very tidy. Are you going to create a new wooden sign on the board above the hooks?
Susan says
Thank you, Martina! The sign over the hooks is one that I previously had in my kitchen. It says “Farm Fresh Eggs,” but the lettering is a very light white and hard to see in the photos.

Just lovely, Susan… I saw this on The Creative Circle (your feature). I saw your rug/runner, and the rest of the makeover, and ‘ran’ over. 😉 I actually have this rug in my cart at Annie Selke Outlet… trying to make a decision. It’s SO pretty, and your post confirmed that! 😉 LOL! Thanks for sharing your home!
Susan says
Hi Julie! I think you will love the rug. It is so pretty, neutral and adds just a touch of pattern. Thanks for stopping by! Susan

Where is the ceiling heat vent?
Susan says
The magic of Photoshop! I sometimes edit out things like vents and outlets when they are distracting to the photo.
