When my friend Jennifer from Town and Country Living invited me to join a group of fantastic bloggers for her monthly Cozy Living Series, of course I said yes! Cozy is my love language. So, the first Saturday of each month, I will be sharing seasonal cozy living ideas here on the blog. We all could use a little more comfort in our lives, right? Today, I’m sharing ideas for decorating with personal mementos, along with thrifted and vintage finds, for a cozy and collected fall den.
Sectional Sofa
I’ve made a lot of changes in our den/family room recently, both big and small. It’s where we spend our time relaxing, watching TV, reading, and just hanging out. Creating a cozy space is my top priority in this room.
The first big change in this space is our “new” sectional. It’s a Pottery Barn basic sectional with a neutral ticking stripe slipcover, and it was a recent thrift store find. So, it’s new to me, but not really new. Oh my goodness, this sectional is so comfortable. I did have an IKEA Ektorp sectional (you can see it here, here, and here), and I really liked it. The Ektorp and PB Basic are very similar in size and style, but it terms of comfort, the PB Basic is the clear winner. The PB basic sectional is much cushier, and the corner wedge is the best. It creates an extra deep corner that is so amazing for curling up and snuggling. It’s my favorite cozy spot on our home.

Worn wood and leather accents
For the fall season, I added an assortment of pumpkins to a vintage wood bowl. The wood adds warmth and texture, and vintage pieces create the collected look I love. The worn leather storage trunk was a thrifted find, and makes a nice side table. The coffee table is also a vintage piece. I stripped the top and left the wood raw (sealed with Fusion Beeswax Finish), and painted the base.
Candles
Nothing says cozy like a candle. The candles from Antique Candle Works are my favorite. My mom gave me the little vintage cream container, and it works perfectly to hold a few matches.
Elements from Nature
I always enjoy decorating with a few seasonal elements from nature. The vibrant leaves and pumpkins add color, and make a nice substitute for florals.
Layered Rugs, Pillows, and Throws
I layered a blue rug over the braided jute rug for added softness, texture, and a pop of blue. A variety of soft pillows and throws are a must for snuggling as the weather cools.
Personal photos and momentos
I also switched up the decor on the wall behind the sofa. Using artwork I already had, and a few thrifted pieces, I created a simple, eclectic gallery wall.
Many years ago, while antiquing with my mom, I found a bunch of old pages from a photo album. I was immediately drawn to the photos and the beautiful images. They are faded and a bit tattered which makes me love them even more. The photos show friends at a beach, and they depict so much joy and love. In almost every photo, the young people are embracing, holding hands, or touching each other. The photos are so playful, and you can just sense the love and affection that the friends felt for one another. Even though I don’t know these people, the photos mean so much to me. It’s mementos likes these that add the greatest feeling of cozy and comfort to our home.
Maybe some day I will frame the photos, but for now I have them simply displayed with a push pin on the wall.
This photo of two young women is my favorite. Isn’t it lovely?
Also on my gallery wall, I’ve included photos of my mom and my grandparents. These, of course, are so special to me.
A Fat Cat
And no cozy room would be complete without an ole’ Fatty Lumpkin cat. Louie has never met a soft fuzzy blanket he didn’t love. Come to think of it, neither have I.

You’re right! No room is ever complete without a cat. Period. A tuxedo cats are the best! I love how you brought in the blue to balance out the fall colors, and provide a nice counterpoint to the neutrals in the sectional and pillows. The room does indeed look cozy and inviting, but it’s clear from your blog that cozy is your top priority. I have really enjoyed your blog! Looking forward to more of these posts!

Such a pretty room! I love those old beach photos and yes, love the pic of the two women. You’ve displayed them so creatively. It immediately caught my eye! Your Louie Lumpkin is absolutely adorable (fellow cat lover here). That leather storage trunk is a keeper!

Your room is so cozy and beautiful! I’m just a little bit envious of that PB sectional that you scored! That’s the score of the century! It looks so good and bet it’s comfy too! I have an Ektorp now and would love to find a PB version! Guess I need to spend a little more time looking on CL and Marketplace and hit up the thrift stores more often!

Thanks so much, Doreen! I think the key to great thrifted finds is patience and checking often. It really can be hit or miss, but I definitely “hit” with the PB sectional!
