It’s hard to believe we are already into November. But you know what that means? Besides half price Halloween candy? It’s time for another Cozy Living post with my blogging friends. Yay! Today I wanted to show you some updates I have made to our cozy little office reading nook and guest room space. You can visit all the other cozy blog posts linked below.
I’ve mentioned before that my home is modest in size, and we don’t have a dedicated guest room. So, our office has to do double duty. It’s a really tricky space for furniture placement, however. It’s small (aka cozy!) and measures just 10 x 10 feet. Two of the walls have huge windows, which is great for natural light, but leaves little wall space. The other two walls contain a large closet and double french doors. The challenge has been to figure out how to add a comfy place for a guest to sleep, and also use the space for a desk/office.
I came up with a great solution by adding a daybed. Now we have a cozy reading nook, lots of extra storage, and a place for guests. I really love this particular daybed because it has huge baskets for storage, and it accommodates a regular twin size mattress. It is such a great small space option.

I gave the little vintage end table a quick makeover with Fusion Mineral Paint. Seriously, it took me about 15 minutes, and just one coat of this pretty green, to change the look. I love this color and paint so much.
Update: Thanks for all the questions about the wall color! It’s Benjamin Moore “Gray Wisp.” It’s a really calming color, and we love it. Just a nice neutral gray/blue/green.
Lots of pillows, a throw, and a soft faux sheepskin rug are perfect for snuggling up with a book or magazine.

I always love to add some vintage touches. This vintage flour sack pillow is one of my favorites. A few books on the window ledge are within easy reach. My orchid is thriving in the window and almost ready to bloom again.
The vintage tool box stores a few more office supplies.
Our desk sits under the other window. I cleaned it off just for you!
Thanks so much for touring my cozy office reading nook and guest room. Be sure to check out all the other great cozy living ideas below!

Swoon! It all looks so fabulous and peaceful while doing double duty as a guest room office. LOVE everything. That day bed is adorable and I love the little table. Is that park bench green? I have a step stool in our kitchen painted that fabulous color.

OMG I love everything about this space. I have a guest room/office combo too and am always looking for new ways to make it all work. I may have to copy a few of your ideas if you don’t mind. Beautiful and the color combo works for me!

What a beautiful room! I have a small room that needs to do double duty as well and am considering a day bed – thanks for the inspiration! May I ask where the desk is from? I love the style of it.
Susan says
Thanks, JoAnne! A daybed is a such great small space solution and we are loving ours. The desk is from Pottery Barn (I think). We got it about 20 years ago, and I still love the style. I did change the drawer pulls at one point and added the label bin pulls.
Vicki says

I love the color in the room. Can I ask what color and who’s product. But more importantly can you tell me about your floors. I need to do my floors and have been looking and looking not finding what I want. Could you be so kind as to give me the information about your floors. Color, brand, type.
The room looks so cozy and inviting.
Thanks
Rosie
Susan says
Thanks, Rosie! The color of the room is Benjamin Moore “Gray Wisp.” It’s a nice neutral gray/blue/green. The floors came with the house, so all I know is that they are white oak with a natural finish. Susan
Wendy says
This is gorgeous! So bright and welcoming. I love the color of the chair. Did you stain it or did it come that color?
Susan says
Thank you, Wendy! The chair came that way. It’s from Restoration Hardware and the finish is Weathered Oak.
Zina says
Susan, I just love your decorating style! Thanks so much for sharing your home with us and giving me much needed inspiration! The colors are so peaceful and homey. I can picture a kitty settling for a nap on the day bed while you work at the desk with a cup of tea, pausing periodically to watch the gently falling rain.
Susan says
Thank you so much, Zina! You are right about a kitty napping on the daybed. My cat Louie loves sleeping there, and if you look closely, you can see a bit of him in one of the photos!
Shannon Fox says
Your house sounds a lot like mine 😉 Lots of windows and closets and doorways and so few walls!
Love the daybed. It’s beautiful. So is your photography.
Susan says
Thank you, Shannon! All those windows are great, but definitely a challenge when it comes to decorating. Susan
