Hi Friends!
Today I’m sharing a space in my home that I haven’t shared here on the blog before. Mainly because it’s so small and really hard to photograph. I recently gave my powder room a refresh, and I’m excited to share this little space with you. All the sources are listed below.
The powder room is just 5 x 5 feet. Pretty small for sure, but I suppose that’s standard for most half bathrooms. It had “good bones” to begin with, so no major remodeling was necessary. All the pretty millwork and board and batten wainscoting were existing. It is one of the features I loved about our home when we purchased it 15 years ago. It’s a classic and timeless look, and adds a nice custom detail to our home.
My refresh was really just about adding some personality to the space. Just gussied it up a bit.

I started by painting the walls a soft, creamy white with warm gray undertones. The color is Benjamin Moore “Dove Wing.” It makes the small space feel light and bright, but still warm. I just love it! I’m using this color in several spaces in my home, and will be sharing those soon. Whites can be tricky, and you really need to test any paint color in your own space.
Next was the window. I’ve been slowly upgrading several of the window treatments in my home. The white wood blind that was previously on this window had become non-functional and had seen better days. Honestly, I’m just over blinds in general. It served us well for 15 years, but it was time for it to go! I replaced it with the same style woven shade I used in Sadie’s bedroom makeover. It’s so pretty, and adds some much needed texture to the white space. It’s cordless and so easy to raise and lower.
And speaking of texture, I found this pretty jute rug at World Market. The fringe and pattern are so pretty!
I added a little touch of amber glass for fall. The Japanese maple leaves are from my garden. It’s always nice to add a living element to any space.
The Room Ritual spray makes the bathroom smell like a spa. So wonderful, and a nice alternative to a candle.
The biggest challenge was finding a mirror that 1) I liked, 2) fit the narrow space (just 21 inches) between the two sconces, and 3) was affordable. This was no easy feat. But, I finally stumbled upon a wonderful mirror at the Goodwill, and bonus it’s a vintage piece! As I always do, I pulled my measuring tape out of my purse to see if it would work. Sure enough, it would fit! It’s hard to tell, but the mirror is really tall – almost 4 feet. It actually works well with our 9 foot ceilings.
The mirror was originally dark brown, so I gave it a quick makeover. I primed and then painted it to match the trim color. I think the mirror was probably part of a dresser set originally, but I’ve repurposed it for my bathroom.
I replaced the light fixtures with these pretty black and milk glass sconces. Even though they are new, I think they add a nice vintage touch.
The art is a thrift store find. I also added a fun little sign that appealed to the nurse in me.
So that’s the powder room refresh! Thanks so much for checking in with me today. It means so much to me that you stop by my blog.
Susan

I love it all. I’m neutral color obsessed! I would love to see a touch of distressing on the mirror to marry it to the new black sconces. It’s fabulous!

Hi Sherry! I’m really loving neutrals, too, especially this fall. Distressing would be really pretty!

You have so inspired me to make some much needed updates to my powered room – love everything you’ve done (always do!!). Is the wall mounted soap dish also by Kohler?
Susan says
Thank you, Sonja! I am so happy to have inspired you. I’m so sorry, but I really don’t recall where the soap dish is from. I purchased it so many years ago, and I have forgotten where I got it!
