It’s officially fall, can you believe it? This year I have decided to embrace classic warm fall colors, old school orange pumpkins and mums in our outdoor spaces. I’m sharing a full tour of my traditional fall porch.
I love decorating my porch for the fall season. I’ve been trying to simplify the decor and colors inside my home, but I’m having some fun with color outside this fall. Almost everything on my porch is thrifted, but where I can, I’ve listed sources at the bottom of this post.

While I enjoy decorating for the seasons, I don’t necessarily want to go out and purchase a lot of season specific decor that will have to be stored for most of the year. Using real pumpkins and florals, and decor that can be used year round, is a great way to go.
Real pumpkins of all colors, shapes and sizes are so readily available and affordable now. I grabbed several from Trader Joe’s and my local grocery store. At the end of the season, I just toss them in the compost, with no need to worry about storing them. Faux pumpkins can take up a lot of storage space!
I do have two small faux pumpkins from last year that I reused again. Can you tell which ones they are?
I also used some pretty orange mums in shades of coral and orange. I kept the little blueberry bushes that I have in my containers, and they turn such pretty shades of red and orange perfect for fall. Smaller varieties of blueberries like “Tophat” work really well in containers. My daughter loved picking a few blueberries on her way out the door this past summer.
My ferns from summer are thriving and huge, and I will keep them flanking the front door (as long as they survive the winter).
On the left side of the porch I have a small vintage table that I found for a few dollars at the Goodwill. I covered it with a linen ruffle table cloth to add some softness to this space. I switched out the pillow covers for some pretty plaid ones with soft orange and white tones.
The old salvaged window was an easy upcycle, and I still love it.
The hydrangeas are from my garden. They are from several different hydrangea varieties (Endless summer, Limelight, Preziosa, and an oakleaf variety), and they are all turning various shades of green, pink, and mauve.
Nothing prettier than a vase full of hydrangeas.
My little grocery store olive tree is still hanging on, too.
Now on to the right side of the porch. On the steps, more pumpkins and traditional fall florals – mums, pansies, sunflowers and ornamental cabbage.
I potted the cabbage and fall florals in a little thrifted basket I picked up for $2. I’m always on the lookout for inexpensive containers to use for my plants. The baskets add a bit of warmth and texture.
On this side of the porch we have a conversation area with comfy seagrass wingback chairs.
Cozy throws and pillows create a nice spot for relaxing.
The dried Limelight hydrangeas are from last fall.
And finally, a yummy fall candle.
Thanks for stopping by my traditional fall porch! I hope the fall season is off to a wonderful start for you. If you have any questions, please let me know in the comments below.

Hi Susan,
The porch is lovely. I love the gigantic ferns! I get so tired of replanting the pots 4 times a year – changing them out each season. The ferns are the perfect solution, for some of the pots at least. Can you share where you found them and how long you have had them in the pots? Thanks!

Thanks so much, Kay! I picked up the ferns at Home Depot at the beginning of summer. They were a discount item, looked kind of small and sad, but are now thriving on my porch. A success story!
