Hey, it’s me, Susan in your inbox today! It has been a minute since I have posted on the blog, I know. With all the tragedy going on in the world these past few months, I wasn’t sure if anyone would be interested in reading my little blog. But, one of the many lessons I’ve come away with from all of this, is just how important our homes are. They truly can, and should, be our shelter in the storm. So, maybe, just maybe, my posts will be of interest to you now. I hope so, friends.
With that said, today I’m sharing my home office makeover. Many of us are working from home right now, so I thought it might be useful to you to see the updates I have made to our little space. Sources are listed at the bottom of this post.
I wasn’t intending on giving this space a total makeover. Earlier this year, I decided to give the space a fresh coat of paint, and things just sort of snowballed from there. That’s just kinda how I roll actually. A little tweek turns into an all out room redo. Same story with Sadie’s bedroom makeover last year.
Anyway, with everything moved out of the room, I had a blank slate in front of me. I began to see the space with fresh eyes, and brainstorm how the room could better function. The next thing I knew, I had my old furniture listed on Craigslist, window treatments ordered, and all kinds of plans cooked up. Ha!
This room has undergone more than one transformation. You can see my previous makeovers here and here. It’s a small space with large windows on two of the walls, French doors at the entry, and a closet on the remaining wall. It’s been a bit tricky to decorate, but I think I finally have it figured out!

I painted the room with Benjamin Moore “Collingwood.” It’s a lovely neutral greige. I really liked the prior paint color (Gray Wisp), but I was just ready to change things up.
I also replaced the window blinds with linen roman shades. They are white linen roman shades from SelectBlinds and filter the light and soften the window so nicely. I also added gorgeous linen drapery panels from Ballard Designs (sadly they are no longer available). They are from the Suzanne Kasler line, and the quality is amazing. The fabric is heavy and they are lined, making them hang beautifully. The stripes are soft blue and linen on a creamy white background. Gorg!
I moved our old desk under the window, and switched up the chair. The honeysuckle on the trellis outside the window has attracted so many bees and hummingbirds this spring, making for a wonderful view.
I’ve been spending a lot of time in the garden this spring, too. I planted about 7 or 8 new hydrangeas, and they are turning all shades of pink. Nothing prettier than hydrangeas in a simple blue mason jar, in my humble opinion.
If you need a pretty book or two, I highly recommend either of these books, “Hydrangeas” and “Paris in Bloom.” Chock full of gorgeous floral photography.
My absolute favorite part of the room is the new rug. It is amazing! The watery blues add just a bit of color and pattern to the space. It’s soft, but not too thick (which we needed in this space so the doors can open and close). When I rolled it out into the room, I immediately knew I had found “the one!” It’s so pretty, guys.
Here are some close up photos.
I’m sure you all know by now about the Studio McGee line of home decor and furniture at Target. It’s pretty fantastic. I popped into Target a couple of days ago to pick up a frame, and walked by this beautiful cream chair on 50% off clearance. It’s the Mercer chair from Studio McGee’s line. This chair is reasonably priced to begin with, but at 50% off, I could not pass it up! It’s just perfect in our office. As I said, our office is tight on space, so the smaller size of the chair works well. It’s really quite comfy, too! And those little brass casters, sigh.
The blue washed velvet pillow is from my pillow stash. It adds a pop of color and texture. The brass lamp was a Goodwill find.
Thanks so much for stopping by today. I hope you are staying healthy and safe.
Susan

Love the new look. The colors are so calming and everything is so light and airy. You must have the best Goodwill stores around you. I’m always amazed at the items you say came from Goodwill. I never find anything like that anywhere near me.
Susan says
Thanks, Cheryl! We do have great Goodwills here in Seattle. They have been closed for several months and I have definitely missed them.

Lovely room. Love the colors. The rug and curtains go so well together. I am trying to find curtains for a room and seeing your long ones made me decide I want long ones, not the short ones I was thinking of.
Susan says
Thank you, Theresa! Good luck with your room!

I absolutely, LOVE EVERYTHING! I have been looking for a cute, white chair too! What texture paint do you like — flat, semi? Also, where did you get your wicker basket/table? Thank you, Susan, for your posts! I just love the paint you use and adore your style! Stay safe and happy! 🙂

Thank you so much for your sweet comments! For my walls, I always use an eggshell sheen. Our walls have some light texture, and eggshell works best for me. For all of the cabinets and trim in my home, I use Benjamin Moore Advance in a satin sheen. The lidded wicker basket is from Target. I have a link at the bottom of my post to the exact piece. Thank you!
